your key to following Jesus while dealing with mental health issues

Jessica's Story

I Shouldn't be here. I shouldn't be alive. But I am. That means everything to me.

I was sitting on a couch in a facility one day, crocheting and watching the Waltons, wondering what in the world my life was good for. Somehow, these words crawled out of the plethora of scriptures I had memorized as a child - “I will not die, but live.” When you’re in the mindset I was in, you want to argue with that thought – “Why, why should I live? What’s the point?" The answer? To tell what God has done. Butwhat has God done? Did he just make the world and me and leave me to fend for myself, or does he really care? When I was thirteen, I wasn't sure there was a God. I prayed a simple prayer – God, if you’re real like I’ve always heard you are, will you show me that? Will you come into my heart and save me like I’ve always heard you can? Back to me sitting on that couch with Psalm 118:17 piercing the corners of my troubled mind as my plastic crochet hook pierced a skein of fuzzy pink yarn, I realized that hope I’d found nine years ago was still there. I had the history of what God had done for me, was still doing for me. It gave me a purpose. Now it’s time to explore yours.
